Vitamin Deficiencies with Raynauds sufferers

Hi everyone, I suffer from Raynauds and I would like to know if anyone else has vitamin deficiencies because of this. I am deficient of B12, which is the second time now after having treatment for it. I am also borderline deficient of vitamin D. I have so far not been able to find out why my body cannot absorb Vitamin B12 efficiently. I would love to hear if anyone else has these problems?

I am deficient in iron and badly Vit D deficient. I think some of my problems are due to my autoimmune probs, i have scleroderma, PBC and hypothyroidism and think the combination of the meds and autoimmune problems makes it hard to absorb vitamins. Also, having raynauds means covering up more, which leads to less sunlight on the skin, and less Vit D!!

Thanks for your advice, it seems that a number of us are dealing with this problem of being unable to absorb the right nutrients. I have spoken to my doctor about this, so at least it is being investigated now. Although it is nice to speak with others that suffer from autoimmune problems, as doctors do not always understand.

Hello, I do not know about Vits B12 or D, but I was told after numerous tests for iron deficiency that the food passes through my gut so quickly that I fail to absorb the nutrients properly. Do you also have scleroderma?

Hi I do not suffer from scleroderma, I have started to show signs of sjogrens.

Hi there, yes have been treated for B12 deficiency a couple of times in the last 2 years. Also for some reason I'm deficient in folate, so every six months or so take a course of folic acid. Considering I never go out in the sun without being covered up my Vitamin D is fine?

Hi, thank you for your reply.

So when you were treated for B12 deficiency, did your doctor look into it in more detail ?

My doctor is considering referring me to a Hematologist, as I was told I should not keep having problems with the B12. Have you come across this yourself ?

Anyone with autoimmune probs should ALWAYS be tested for Vit D deficiency

I have scleroderma and raynauds phenomenon severe in my hands, knees, and feet. All my doctors have told me than my vitamin B 12 deficiency is autoimmune related and my calcium and vit D levels fluctuate from low to borderline normal due to autoimmune. I do have to take B12 injections weekly.

I have Raynauds, Sjogrens, Barretts Esophagus and pernicious anemia. I have been dealing with a severe B12 deficiency as well as Vitamin D. I get plenty of sun so wth? I have been getting weekly B12 injections and take 50,000 units of Vitamin D weekly in pill form. They help ease the allover pain but energy is always low. Good luck and see if weekly shot would help ~Lori

I have raynauds phenomenon and also am B-12 and Vitamin D deficient. I give myself B-12 shots and take 50,000 IU of Vitamin D once a week. I also have hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Hi, I have scleroderma and also have vitamin D and iron deficiency anaemia. I take regular Calci chew Vit D Forte and I had an iron infusion in July this year............... Despite these supplements I still have all over aches and pains in my joints and muscles. I have good and bad days, it takes me a good hour and a half for me to get moving in the morning. I think this is a common symptom for people who suffer from autoimmune conditions............................... I wish you all well x take care x

Hi I have B12 deficiency along with calcium and Vit D. I have raynauds, urticaria and vasculitis. Gastro consultant picked up my B12 and checked my intrinsic factor which was fine so she thought there were problems in my tummy stopping me absorbing properly, so I have B12 injections at the GP's every 12 weeks and I take Ad-Cal twice daily for the other 2. If I have a bout of steroids then my calcium drops again and I crave ice-cream, something I never eat!

I have vitamin D deficiency and take adcal tablets daily. My GP suspects B12 deficiency too, just waiting for results

Re. Vitamin D, Sainsbury's have a 'Three for the Price of Two' deal on Vitabiotics Ultra Vitamin D with D3 tablets (96 in each packet). Price is about £13 I think.

I have been taking Vit D 1000 units everyday for 18 months and a multivit chewable and have not had a severe cold virus since. Also my MS has stabalised. In conclusion I feel strongly that taking a vitamin suppliment is a great idea and would recommend this to everyone.
